The Bridal Party

The Hair Combing Ceremony

The hair combing ceremony is a traditional part of a Chinese wedding in which a mother combs her daughter’s hair. Each hair comb is symbolic — the mother combs to wish her daughter a long and happy marriage, a long life, and harmonious family relationships.

The Gate Crash

In the gate crash, the groom and his groomsmen go to the bride’s house to pick her up. When they arrive, the bridesmaids stop them from reaching the bride. They then put the groom and groomsmen through a series of challenges he must pass in order to prove he is worthy of reaching his bride. Along the way, the groom also gives the bridesmaids bribes, so that they are more likely to let him pass. If he succeeds, he is allowed to see his bride, who is waiting in a separate room behind a closed door.

The Tea Ceremony

In a Chinese wedding, the couple serves tea to their elder family members as a sign of respect and gratitude to the members of their families who have raised and sacrificed for them.
